Middle School
Introduction to Theatre
6th gradeHalf Year
Students will be introduced to the many aspects of performance and given the opportunity to try a variety of theatrical skills. During the semester, students will produce theatrical work in small groups as well as create individual products. The goal of this class is to help facilitate good peer dynamics and build self-confidence.
Students must complete the course with an 80 average to continue into Theatre I.

Theatre I
7th and 8th gradeHalf Year
Prerequisite: By audition or theatre director's approval and an 80 average in Introduction to Theatre.
Students will be instructed in verbal and non-verbal communication. Major class assignments may be performances in the areas of pantomime, oral interpretation, improvisation, puppetry, readers' theatre and scenes from plays. Theatre production, acting concepts and skills are introduced. Active listening and speaking skills are reinforced. Students are provided with opportunities to view plays and practice audience etiquette along with evaluating theatrical experiences.
Students must maintain an 80 average in all grading periods to be eligible for Theatre II.

Theatre II
8th gradeFull Year
Prerequisite: By audition or theatre director's approval and an 80 average in Theatre I.
This full year course is for eighth grade students who had Theatre I as a seventh grader. This course of study is a continuation of the Theatre I course with more advanced studies and in-depth analysis of each subject area. Students will be required to audition for all productions, Audition for UIL, and maintain their eligibility. This class requires some after school time.

771 THEATRE ARTS I
Grade 9-121 Credit
Theatre Arts I is an introduction to the dramatic arts. Topics include basic warm ups and acting techniques; a brief overview of the history of theatre arts; interpreting dramatic literature; careers in Theatre; and an introduction to the technical elements of theatrical production

772-4 THEATRE ARTS II, III, and IV
Grade 10-121 Credit
Prerequisite: Theatre Arts I, II, or III and recommendation of teacher
These courses build on the background established in Theatre Arts I, continuing the study of the historical evolution of the theatre, dramatic literature, and production styles. Basic components of production are studied and applied through performance.

781-3 THEATRE ARTS PRODUCTION I, II, III, IV
Grade 10-121 Credit
Prerequisite: Audition with theatre teacher
Students will become a performing group and produce theatre, including UIL one-act play competition. Participation in plays and contests are mandatory.

791 TECHNICAL THEATRE I
Grade 10-121 Credit
Prerequisite: Theatre Arts I and teacher recommendation
Students will learn all aspects of the backstage side of theatre including: set construction, scenic art, set design, lighting, rigging, sound, costuming, make up, theatre management, box office and publicity. This will be a hands-on course with many opportunities.

792-3 TECHNICAL THEATRE II AND III
Grade 11-121 Credit
Prerequisite: Technical Theatre I and teacher approval
This course builds on the background established in Technical Theatre I; continuing the opportunities to experience all technical aspects of the theatre.
